Not good for boiling again fast:
One big problem with this model - let's say you boil water once and you want to boil more water a little while later, the kettle won't let you turn it on. It's almost like the sensor setting is set to be too sensitive. Otherwise, water boils quickly
We Own Two - They're Great!:
First - we too had an issue with a plastic odor.. We solved the problem easily. After following the inadequate instructions supplied with the kettle, let it cool and wash with mild dish soap. Rinse well; heat another pot of water; pour it out; unplug it; dry it; leave the lid up and let it sit overnight. This solved the odor in both kettles we have. submerged heating coil means FAST boiling:
This electric kettle boils water really quickly because the heating element is a submerged coil, not just a plate on the bottom.

For $15 can't be beat:
For a $15 expenditure cannot be beat. Made of plastic (not great but does the job-especially for $15), does not take long to warm up, relatively easy to clean, easy to see water level. The only critique is that it comes with an electric cord that is about 3 ft long. It would have been nice if it included a longer cord.
