On the subject of the optional TomTom charger, if you're traveling abroad (as we often do) connecting your TomTom to a laptop might not be convenient, and you dare not leave your TomTom in the car to charge, so having a charger with the appropriate adapters will allow you to charge your TomTom in your hotel room (perhaps at night while you sleep).
