Customer Review: 1) the book is way too long, it should have been released as two separate books: an update to Hibernate in Action and a new Java Persistence in Action (see Mike Keith's Apress book on JPA!) 2) why is there a random Seam chapter at the end? obviously it ties in with the implementing... more info
Customer Review: This was a mediocre text that is a rewrite of the same text in C++. As is common, the book reads like it was updated by search and replace.
Customer Review: I felt the author has a firm understanding of the concepts and truly what he wanted to convey, but this book lacked a great deal for beginners or newcomers to Java. Far too many of the examples were tough to understand and in many cases simply un-answered. This is not a book for beginners.
Customer Review: Pragmatic Project Automation: How to Build, Deploy, and Monitor Java Apps This is one of the best books that I have read (and own). It is very to the point, excellent explanation(s) and top that with source code. Highly recomended.
Customer Review: Great, but intense brush up on Java for those interviewing with Google, Microsoft, Amazon or any of the other "rigorous interview" tech companies.
Customer Review: I was required to purchase this text for my course. Having never programmed in java before and not having a strong programming background, I found this book almost impossible to follow. This book is definitely not for beginners and assumes previous knowledge of java. I did not find the explanations... more info
Customer Review: This is a pretty well written book, but it's lacking in two respects: 1) The index is terrible. You literally have to thumb through the book to find what you're looking for. For a technical manual, this is inexcusable and greatly reduces the usability of the book. 2) The examples are far... more info
Customer Review: Warning to all buyers, the 3rd edition of this book does not include the J2EE library reference. While I realize this information is available online, having a printed form of library references is the primary reason I buy the "in a nutshell" series. Included in this book is a very general overview... more info
Customer Review: If you are planning on learning Data Structures and Algorithms, this is definitely the book to avoid! Concepts are so horribly explained that I've ended up creating an aversion towards them. This book makes easy topics appear to be the most difficult things that you can ever learn. Mr... more info
Customer Review: I am using this book for a introductory course in Data Structures. It wastes far too many pages on specifications of ADT's. There are pages upon pages of data structure specifications, and very little on showing how they can be used in a real program. There are much better books out there. I like... more info
